Actually, the main asset of this hotel is its location. Public transport is nearby and easy: tram stop Ocean Terminal is just nextdoor. We came directly from the airport by tram, no changes at all. Several bus lines serving Edinburgh city center have a stop on the other side of the hotel. Right nextdoor as well. We came late home from the Tattoo and could easily get back to the hotel by tram, even very late. Otherwise there's another bus stop served by night bus a stroll away. The parking lot looks nice. 10 Pounds a day. The room was large enough and clean. Excellent bed / sheets. AC worked well. Good TV set / remote / channels. Other advantage: this place is rather easy to reach by car, compared with Edinburgh center which can get very busy and congested. Holiday Inn is located outside of the "chaos" and public transport does the rest!

Holiday Inn Express hotels are generally good quality budget hotels, though at £150 a night, this stretches the understanding of "budget" a little. Much to like about this hotel; exceptionally friendly and helpful staff; warm welcome at check-in, great service for breakfast in the restaurant. Rooms on the small side, but well equipped with pleasing interior decor. Several USB sockets for charging devices including by the bedside. Functional bathroom with cubicle shower, again on the small side, but with lashings of hot water and good temperature control in the shower. Extremely comfortable king-size bed and good sound insulation. Free Wi-Fi adequate for web surfing and e mails though limited bandwidth rules out streaming. First-class buffet cooked breakfast.

Burlington

I was in the atrium dining area very early and was able to make myself tea and sit on comfortable sofa/chairs in peace and quiet. The staff were very professional all round. The lift was quick. The breakfast had a very good choice ( my travelling companion is celiac and had no problem). Unfortunately I found the lovely scrambled eggs inedible as way too salty but that's my palate. I know the Scots take a lot more salt, I eat almost none. When the yogurt ran down it was immediately topped up. You are a hundred times better than the Sheraton where we went next. The decor and ground floor chairs and layout is excellent. They called us a cab and it came very promptly

Parking is available onsite for £10 per 24 hours. Rooms are small but comfortable. There is a restaurant and bar. Breakfast is buffet style with a good selection. The evening menu is what I would describe as pub grub. Food quality was good and reasonably priced for a hotel. The best thing about the hotel were the staff. There were always staff available and they went out of their way to help.

Room was comfortable, clean and had all basic amenities you need. As a Coeliac, I have to eat gluten free and was really pleased to see a separate toaster, gluten free bread, porridge and cornflakes. I was also extremely happy that the kind Dining and Kitchen staff carried out my request to make me scrambled egg in the kitchen (this is better for me as it avoids any risk of gluten contamination from the buffet - that can be caused by other guests accidental using serving implements that have been supplied to pick up other gluten containing products).
